1. POSITION: Finance Officer(1)

Reporting to: Finance Manager

Location: Head Office


Purpose of position

The jobholder will be charged with the compilation and review of monthly management accounts for accuracy, quality control and completeness and ensure the same is completed within the stipulated deadlines.

Key Result Areas:

  • Preparation and review of management accounts. Ensure accuracy and quality control.
  • Preparation and review of ALCO reports.
  • Maintenance of the fixed assets register and ensure compliance with the fixed assets policy.
  • Daily and consistent review of the trial balance with particular emphasis on income/expense ledgers. Ensure correctness of postings and prompt reversals of mis postings.
  • Ensure correct and timely submission of payroll returns and installment tax to the regulatory authorities.
  • Accurately prepare Bank of Uganda returns and ensuring these are accurate and submitted in line with the prudential guidelines.
  • Review of LPO/Invoices to ensure accuracy and in line with the budget provisions. Also ensure the documents are duly authorized before posting into the Core Banking System.
  • Continuous automation of management reports to achieve efficiency.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with financial planning and budget preparation

Working Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience preferably gained in the financial services industry.

Education and Professional Qualification:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a business related field
  • CPA Part Qualification - at Level III


2. POSITION: Manager SME(1)

Reporting to: Head SME

Location: Head Office

Purpose of position:

Develop and maintain a portfolio of important revenue generating client relationships within the defined affluent market segment, ensuring they are served exceptionally and to see to the achievement of the overall department goals and business results.

Key Result Areas:

1. Market Strategy

  • Ensure highest standards of service delivery
  • Building long-term relationships
  • Develop strategies to constantly grow the business
  • Generate leads for new business opportunities
  • Timely and effective resolution of customer issues and queries
  • Monitoring of key personnel in various teams to ensure customer satisfaction, consistent growth on balance sheet and income statement and growth of customer base.
  • Ensure a highly motivated and well trained work force. 

2. People Management:

  • Effectively delegate authority and responsibility in line with business objectives to ensure the empowerment, motivation and effectiveness of all immediate subordinates
  • Monitor and manage the performance and development of management and team leaders within the area. This includes conducting mid-year and annual performance appraisals as well as moderating all appraisals for the area
  • Foster an entrepreneurial approach to the business by way of example.
  • Develop and maintain an open communication channel with immediate subordinates and support staff to foster teamwork and facilitate the change process.
  • Drive the Talent Management in conjunction with area human resources.
  • Coach for business performance within the area team.
  • Foster and provide employment equity with specific attention to attaining affirmative action policies of the bank.
  • Support and drive training interventions to address performance/development gaps.

3. Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance to the Bank’s policies, systems and procedures in the region.
  • Ensure NPL should not exceed 3% of total loan portfolio.

Problem Solving and Decision Making:

  • Approval of credit facilities and excesses within limit.
  • Continued un-interrupted service and support to all levels of departments within the organization.
  • Provision of day-to-day tools and equipment for continuous business requirements.
  • Product development and testing as per parameters defined and mutually agreed amongst the various business segments.
  • Management and co-ordination of the administrative function of business banking.
  • Development and training of employees within the control for provision of improved and efficient services.
  • Development and implementation of improved and more efficient processes.

Education Requirement, Skills and Experiences Required:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 7 years in banking, 4 of which must be in senior relationship management position
  • Skills in Business strategy development & implementation
  • Seasoned relationship management and financial analysis skills.
  • Ability to guide and develop the team
  • Have sound experience in regional management.


3. POSITION: Manager, Internal Audit

Reporting to: Head, Internal Audit

Location: Head Office

Purpose of position:

The Manager Internal Audit is responsible for supporting the planning, reviewing, coordinating and Implementation of Audit activities for continuous improvement, and to safeguard against fraud, avoidable loss, waste and result in efficient use and utilization of the Banks resources and assets, in line with International Professional Practice Framework, Internal auditing standards and set Bank policies and procedures.

Key Result Areas:

  • Support the formulation and putting in place the internal audit strategy, budgets and annual plans, effective inspection and audit administrative policy guidelines for the Unit
  • Spearhead continuous improvements of operating systems and procedures, thus reviewing, evaluating, investigating, and advising Management on appropriate systems and internal controls required in the respective departments for the smooth and prudent financial management and running of the Bank’s business.
  • Develop and carry out regular reviews of appropriate procedure manuals for the various areas of operations as necessary.
  • Carry out assignments and investigations as may be directed by the Board, Audit committee, MD or the Management from time to time as deemed appropriate.
  • Prepare and present regularly quality and factual Audit reports and briefs to the Board Audit Committee and Managing Director.
  • Liaise with external auditors in the year-end audit as well as Central Bank Inspectors and follow up on the implementation of their recommendations.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, training and manage staff performance of the audit team at the Bank
  • Devise and recommend effective systems for control and management of audit functions especially as they relate to the Bank’s capital and recurrent expenditure.
  • Undertake regular spot audit check and inspections of sensitive areas and investigate general or specific irregularities and endure that the interest of the Bank is not compromised through any irregularities that may lead to financial loss.
  • Monitor and supervise all administrative activities in the department to ensure adequate control and cost effectiveness in all activities such as manpower and operational activities.
  • Carry out assignments and investigations as may be directed by the Board, Audit committee, MD or the Management from time to time as deemed appropriate.
  • Carry out Ad-Hoc assignments, investigations, report findings and make recommendations to the Management and the Board Audit Committee.
  • Identify risks associated with the business/operations and discuss them with the Management and team members;
  • Provide oversight and support, on a need basis, to the Board Audit Committee and/or MD in the Subsidiary operations;
  • Certify that returns are submitted to the central bank in line with FIA, 2004
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Working Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Auditing in a financial Institution, Auditing Firm or related industry.

Education and Professional Qualification:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Should be a member of ICPAU
  • Certification in CIA, Risk and CISA will be an added advantage.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the IPPF standard IFRS.
  • Ability to manage customers and their expectations. Strong advisory skills.
